Handicrafts can be defined as products carrying certain traditional, regional, functional, esthetic, artistic, cultural, decorative, religious and modern traits; created based on the knowledge and skills of one or multiple artists by hand or the use of different materials. Traditional Turkish handicrafts include carpetry, kilim making, ceramics, pottery, tile arts, embroidery, musical instruments, doll and puppet making, stonemasonry, metal crafts, coppersmith, basketry, felting, woodworking, etc. Calligraphy (Hüsn-i hat), katı’, ebrû (paper marbling), traditional binding, miniatures and illumination are included under the category of traditional book arts.
