She studied Painting at Marmara University, Faculty of Education and started illumination courses in Kubbealtı Culture and Art Foundation Painting House in 1983. 

She gained her permission/authorization in illumination from her master İnci A. Birol in 1991.

She started to serve as researcher in Marmara University, Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Traditional Turkish Handcrafts – Division of Illumination and Miniature.

She still teaches upon the subjects of Illumination Art, Turkish Decoration Art, The History of Turkish Decoration Art, and Illumination of Manuscript in the same university for undergraduate, graduate and proficiency in art programs. Ass. Prof. Gülnur Duran is also giving illumination lessons in Kubbealtı Culture and Art Foundation.

The artist had many exhibitions both at home and abroad and her dissertation thesis in proficiency in art named “Ali Üsküdari, Tezhip ve Rugani Üstadı, Çiçek Ressamı” published by Kubbealtı Publisher.
