He graduated from Marmara University Faculty of Divinity and Istanbul University Faculty of Literature 

He was student of Calligrapher Hamid Aytaç the late, in sülüs and nesih branches during his university education. 

He was appointed as assistant to Marmara University Faculty of Divinity while attending post graduate lessons in İstanbul University Chair of Turkish and Islamic Art and obtained his PhD in 1984, became Assistant Professor in 1990 and Professor in 1997.

He searched the traces of Turkish calligraphy in Egypt within the Cairo University between the years of 1987 and 1988.

He made studies on subjects like generalizing the understanding of maintenance for traditional arts and protection of cultural heritage.   

He opened exhibitions with his wife who is also an illumination artist in Cairo (1987), Bursa (1990), Dubai (1990, 2004, 2005, and 2006), Sharjah (2002), Tunisia (1994), Jeddah (1995, 2001), Berlin (1999) and Istanbul (2001, 2002, 2003, 2006).

Prof. Subaşı still serves as an academic member in Marmara University, Faculty of Divinity and Chair of Turkish Decoration and Calligraphy Arts.
