" Traditional puppet and shadow play are starting phase of modern theatre. Karagöz shadow play is a kind of forgotten art and slightly being remembered and given value. This tradition will be much sounder with the help of innovations in art brought by the masters. Karagöz shadow play is very interesting for me as I engage in painting as painting is one dimensional but crafting karagöz has many levels from removing the drawings from skin plate, dressing it to make it ready for performance. In the last level, that’s to say while playing, your art becomes alive. For me puppetry is like a relationship between soul and body. If puppet means body play is then the soul. Karagöz shadow play and puppetry has some peculiar techniques. You can make innovations in karagöz shadow play tradition providing that there is a compliance with your own style with the method of the master you follow. I wish that great importance should be given to this tradition in conservatoire education and the places for crafting and playing should be increased."
